Residency Certificate

A Residency Certificate, locally known as Surat Keterangan Tempat Tinggal (SKTT), is an official document issued by the Population and Civil Registration Office to certify the residence status of foreigners living in Indonesia.

For foreign nationals buying a vehicle, renewing their KITAS, or opening a bank account, a Residency Certificate (SKTT) is one of the requirements. This document certifies the residence status of foreigners living in Bali or other regions in Indonesia. It’s valid for one to two years, depending on the validity of your KITAS (limited stay permit). By law, you should report to the Population and Civil Registration Office within 14 days of receiving your KITAS to register your residence status and obtain a Residency Certificate. FAQ

What are the uses of a Residency Certificate (SKTT)?

The Certificate of Residence (SKTT) is an important document that proves your legal residency in Indonesia and enables you to access various services and administrative processes. Having an SKTT allows you to buy and register a vehicle, which is necessary for legally owning and operating a car or motorcycle in the country. It also plays a vital role in extending your KITAS (limited stay permit), which permits you to continue living and working in Indonesia beyond your initial visa period. Furthermore, the SKTT is required to open a bank account, as it confirms your local residency.

Is a Residency Certificate (SKTT) the same as a Domicile Letter?

No, a Residency Certificate is not the same as a Domicile Letter. A Residency Certificate serves as official proof of your residence status in Indonesia. The Domicile Letter, on the other hand, confirms your place of residence. The Domicile Letter is available for locals and foreigners, while the Residency Certificate is only available to foreigners.
