The E31A Visa is issued to foreign nationals who are married to Indonesian citizens and wish to reside in Indonesia. This visa permits long-term stay in Bali, although it does not grant the right to work.
The E31A Visa allows you to enter Indonesia multiple times and stay for an extended period. You can renew the visa, as long as you continue to meet the renewal conditions. The E31A Visa can lead to permanent residency (KITAP) if you meet the required criteria in the future. This visa allows you to:
- Travel to and from Indonesia.
- Conducting activities related to tourism, and visiting friends or family.
- Attending education, as long as it has been reported to Immigration (using the multiple activity reporting process).
This visa doesn’t allow you to:
- Stay in Indonesia after your visa expires.
- Sell goods or services in Indonesia.
- Working for and receiving compensation/wages from Indonesian companies or individuals.
Requirements
Passport validity
Passport that is valid for at least 6 (six) months.
Recent photograph
A recent color portrait photograph of you.
Personal bank statement
Min. USD $2,000 covering the last 3 months (name, date, and balance).
ID card
ID card and Family card (KK) of the Indonesian spouse.
Evidence of the marriage
Such as marriage certificate or marriage book.
Photograph of spouse
A recent color portrait photograph of the Indonesian spouse.
If you’re applying inside Indonesia you are required to submit your current visa (must still be valid for at least 30 days)

Can I work in Bali with the E31A Visa?
You cannot work in Bali or anywhere in Indonesia with an E31A Visa. If you intend to work, you need to apply for the correct work permit, which are specifically for employment. This requires sponsorship from an employer.
How long is the E31A Visa valid, and can I renew it?
The E31A Visa is valid for 1 or 2 years, but the good news is you can renew it every year! As long as you meet the requirements, renewing is straightforward, allowing you to travel in and out of Bali and enjoy longer stays with your spouse. Over time, you may even qualify for permanent residency (KITAP) to make Bali your long-term home.
